Job summary

Russell Publishing is looking for a determined, and highly organised Editor to research and write and/or Commission authors/industry experts to produce articles and features for the title via interviews, telephone and email, in order to grow and develop the brand.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for delivering content for all channels appropriate to the audience – including website, email, print, video, podcast and webinar. All work to be done to budget
  • Devise and implement editorial strategy and change
  • Ensure content meets the needs of the readers and advertisers
  • Oversee commissioning and selection of stimulating content
  • Managing junior editors if required
  • Supporting Managing Editor as required

Qualifications / Experience

Print and digital editorial experience.
Journalistic experience at Junior Editor level with a journalism qualification or equivalent.

  • An aptitude for conducting targeted research to develop new sales leads

Main Duties

  • Delivering content for all channels appropriate to the audience – including website, email, print, video, podcast and webinar within budget
  • Forward plan each year’s print issues taking into account market trends
  • Build up a contacts list for the specific genre and core topics of your title
  • Identify future markets and new products with editorial & commercial potential
  • Negotiating clear terms and deadlines for each author and ensuring all copy deadlines are met and copy is received on time
  • Recruit and manage the brand’s advisory board ensuring consistent communication and reflection
  • Ensure that copy delivered is cleared for press, i.e. subbed and content checked where necessary. This includes proof reading and editing to an in-house style
  • Handing over completed material to the internal production team and liaising as appropriate on matters of style, design, production and quality
  • Work closely with the content marketing teams to create and distribute content to the brand audience
  • Working with the other departments in RPL to ensure the smooth production of the title
  • Completing a flat plan for each issue ensuring close liaison with the advertising department
  • Contributing to marketing and sales activities
  • Work closely with the advertising department to ensure that the product reflects the advertiser’s demands
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Audience teams to ensure that products reflect the reader’s demands
  • Build a clear vision as to where the brand should be in its market place
  • Attend conferences/exhibitions/briefings; some international travel/evening work may be required
  • Liaise with colleagues within the Company and contacts externally in a professional manner in order to ensure that the highest standards are maintained
  • Hit success criteria targets as set by the Head of Content
  • Organising or writing copy for advertisers or sponsors in line with new commercial propositions
